A bit of history...

We thought we should provide some background on our friendship and how this blog came into existence. The friendship began with our families becoming neighbors on Gardendale Drive back in the early 1990s.
From being the big friendly giants as we towered over the rest of our dance class....

To having tea parties (our British influence started early)....

And, everyday with out fail, riding bikes to meet at the stop sign (the half way point between their house...and coincidently where this blog got it's title!)

Sadly, when Laura Grace and Alison were about to start 3rd grade, the Campbell family made a sad move to the DC area. From there, they visited as often as possible and the two families vacationed together. The everyday encounters quickly ceased, but the friendship had only just begun.
Friendship has lasted through the awkward years and the beach trips together....
And visits to DC for the Carroll/Campbell families to reunite...thankfully we all stayed close through the years.

Now, with Alison attending Georgia Tech and calling Atlanta home...and Laura Grace studying at Wake Forest but making trips back to Nashville often...the distance is not bad and weekend visits are often do-able!
Alison visited Wake, almost as soon as we started college, and we enjoyed a day out on a nearby lake!
During a weekend Laura Grace spent at Tech, we re-enacted meeting at the stop sign.
Right after Georgia Tech Volleyball beat UNC...celebrating the win!
Sporting our animal hats during a weekend in Atlanta!
During a weekend in Nashville, revisiting "poor people"...our childhood home that was two stories and allowed us to fish in the creek without leaving the tree house!

...So this is the history of our friendship that has lasted 21 years (and many more to come!) and as we traveled Europe together this summer, we decided a blog would be a great way to update each other and anyone else on what is happening with our lives after all these years. We hope the adventures keep on coming!

Bienvenue en Afrique: Marrakech, Maroc

To finish off our European travels we decided to mix things up and we headed to Africa for a couple of days in Morocco. It was the first time we had braced the continent of Africa together and lets just say it was definitely an adventure.

Adventure #1: Upon arriving to Morocco we were not fully aware of the temperature that it experiences in the months of July/August. We quickly found out when we arrived and it was a 110 degrees. So to little surprise days 1 & 2 were spent on the brinks of several close "pass outs"... below Laura Grace had a close call when we decided we would rather walk two miles in the mid-day sun then spend 4 dollars on a taxi.. clearly the heat had already got to our brains.

Adventure # 2: Surviving the souks of Marrakech... the souks which are the markets of the city are a whole adventure in themselves. This is where all the haggling goes on... We managed to get a lot of cool things and always made sure to bargain our way down to at least half the asking price, thanks to the technique we like to call "the fake walk away".

Adventure # 3: Riding a camel (Checking it off our bucket list)... more on this to come.

(From Left to Right: Alison & Lod in our camel forms)

Adventure # 4: Climbing the Atlas Mountains, enough said.

Adventure # 5: After a 45 min hike we finally reached the waterfalls and enjoyed a relaxing but FREEZING swim accompanied by new friends with the Berber and Moroccan flag!

Adventure #6: Surviving Ryan Air. We realized quickly that you get what you pay for when using sketchy airlines. Lesson learned the hard way...but we got back to London eventually!

Learning how to be British...

With Alison's newly established British citizenship and London being Laura Grace's home base for the summer...we decided it was important that we learn the ins and outs of being a proper English resident.

Do Not: Take the typical tourist picture.

Do: Wear fascinators to British weddings.

Do: Explore the English countryside.

Do: Wear Wellington (Wellie) boots whenever the opportunity arrises.

Do: Make time for cream tea in quaint gardens.

Do: Pick berries in the south of England.

Do: Practice & Perfect the Lingo of the Brits.

Specs: "O darling, would you be so kind to hand me my specs" = glasses
Tip: "I'll tip you out by the door of the restaurant" = drop you off
Spend a penny: "I am going to spend a penny" = going to the bathroom
Crackers: "Eleanor goes crackers over that place" = excited, crazy
Cheeky: "That driver is being so cheeky!" = naughty
